Post black is difficult to discuss because no one can really agree on what it is. Supposedly an extension on black metal it has come to be an umbrella term for blackgaze, atmospheric black with heavy post rock elements, and just straight up experimental black. If one was to really pin down the style with a few descriptions it would be starting around black metal and then traveling to far off places usually ending up with unconventional themes and imagery. Aside from a few social media pages, there is little about 明日の叙景(Asunojokei)aside from being a hardcore/post-something band from Tokyo. If one was to really pin down the band with a few descriptions it would be energetic with a well of potential.
Before traveling into the b and’s first EP(?) 過誤の鳥 (A Bird In The Fault), one has to resign themselves that things will be strange. There is an emotional twinge which populates this release with screamo/emo chords and structures. There are spoken dialogue through some “breakdowns” and the whole thing sounds like it could turn into screamo at any moment. If this sort of thing does not bother you then, 明日の叙景(Asunojokei)does a fantastic job at keeping attention by not aligning themselves to any one style but just being a damn oddball at everything. The beginning of “自己に対する無関心が生んだ他人への共感(Easy)” is just mournful croaks which collapses into a fierce and chaotic black metal finisher. If anything can be said about this release and the band who made it is that it shines with brilliant weirdness.
Listening to many albums with reltively the same style can be dulling for the senses. Things like atmospehric lack metal can feel the same after the 10th release. The fact that 明日の叙景(Asunojokei) can make a style, which has had much of its credibility robbed by cynicism and hype over the past few years, seem interesting and fresh should be a feat of consideration. The final self titled piano intro plus the disconnecting sound effect makes the album an experience from a few people who do not care about sitting at anyone lunch table in the heavy metal cafeteria. 明日の叙景(Asunojokei) has decided to just wat on the floor and look at everyone else with odd glances.
